The Douglas County Safe Kids® Chapter
The Safe Kids Chapter is a part of the National Safe Kids Campaign and serves the local community with car seat check-up events, bike rodeos, and a variety of other safety related events and programs. Some Safe Kids prevention areas include: safe bath water temperatures, gun trigger locks, child passenger safety, bicycle and pedestrian awareness, fire safety, and lead poisoning prevention.
What is a Car Seat Check-up Event?
According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, 4 out of every 5 car seats are used incorrectly. As an answer to this obvious problem, the Safe Kids Chapter hosts 4 car seats checks annually. During these events, certified child passenger safety technicians examine your car seat and how it is installed in your vehicle. The technician then assists in the proper installation of your car seat. If you are having trouble affording the cost of a car seat for your child, consider taking advantage of our car seat rental program.
What is a Bike Rodeo?
A bicycle rodeo is an event set up for kids of varying ages to have their bikes checked out for safety, to be fitted for a bicycle helmet, and to run through an obstacle course to test and evaluate their bike skills. The rodeo is designed to bring kids together so they can learn these skills in a fun and exciting way. The Safe Kids Chapter tries to host at least 2 rodeos in the community annually.
When would be the best time for a Safe Kids event?
Any of these, or other, Safe Kids related events can be held alone, or as a part of another organized event, such as a Safety Day or Health Fair.
