More Information
Starting Dec. 15th the State will be able to offer the H1N1 vaccine to everybody.
The Douglas County Health Department has received partial shipment of the H1N1 vaccine. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, “Illinois will continue to receive additional shipments of the H1N1 vaccine so there will be enough vaccine for everyone.” Certain people are at higher risk for complications. These priority groups have been determined to be the first to receive the vaccine. Additional doses of the H1N1 vaccine will be delivered to providers over the coming weeks and months so there will be enough vaccine for everyone. In the meantime, we ask that you take everyday preventive actions to stay healthy. Follow the 3 C’s: Clean, Cover and Contain. For more information on the H1N1 virus and the vaccine, please visit our website www.douglascountyhealth.org.
The Douglas County Health Department has begun H1N1 vaccination clinics for health care workers and emergency personnel and will be conducting additional clinics for the local schools. Letters to parents will be sent home within the next week. Please fill out these papers and return them to the school.
Other priority groups may receive their H1N1 vaccination at the Four Seasons building in Tuscola on November 14th from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Priority groups are as follows:
- Pregnant women
- Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than six-months of age
- Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
- All people from six-months through 24-years of age
- Persons aged 25-64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza
If you are within these priority groups, we encourage you to participate in receiving this vaccine to aid in the prevention of spreading the virus and to protect the community at large from becoming ill.
